According to The Environmental Illness Resource website, "Brain retraining programs use a combination of mental techniques and mind-body therapies that patients practice daily at home over a period of many months to gradually re-wire the limbic system and eliminate symptoms."
At Inspired Learning, our Brain Retraining Program and depending upon the difficulty presented and the age of a the client, we a combination of these therapies:
Our Mindfulness Plus!(cc)Program is designed for kids as young as 5 years old. We use a combination of mind-body therapies designed to help rewire the brain.

We all know what it feels like when we get upset and our fight or flight response is triggered. Despite the fact that our rational mind knows this is not a life or death situation, our biochemistry thinks that it is and our bodies respond by increasing adrenaline, which in turn, causes us to feel anxious. Most often our response is out of proportion to the event that triggered it. This is also the case with children.
For centuries Buddhists have referred to "the wild monkey of our mind" when referring to what we have all experienced as circular thinking. You know that loop that keeps us awake at night? This is where we can help because the goal of brain retraining is to interrupt circular thinking and re-pattern the brain so that we learn to relax enough to RESPOND rather than to REACT.
At 5 years old Sarah is a bright, funny, vivacious child. Her enthusiasm did not help her focus in kindergarten so Sarah's mom wanted to help her daughter learn more about how to control her emotions and improve her ability to listen and focus at school. Using our Mindfulness Plus! Program, Sarah soon learned about how her brain works. She began taming the "wild monkey of her mind" and her focus and attention improved.
As teens develop their sense of Self they often withdraw from their parents. If this is compounded by learning difficulties in school, it can feel overwhelming for them and for you. Our Mindfulness Plus!TM Program is designed to help teens is 3 ways by:
PSTEC stands for "percussive suggestion technique" and was created by Tim Phizackerley from the United Kingdom. It is a hypnosis technique designed to improve emotional well-being and remove patterned and circular thinking. This is not a meridian-based therapy, rather it is designed based on current neuroscience and the "deep learning" tenants recently discovered in the artificial intelligence community.
When Leah came to us she was suffering from depression and anxiety with some PTSD symptoms. By engaging in the Mindfulness Plus! Program, she found her voice through drawing, painting and guided imagery. Her mood lightened.
We also supplemented this program with Holistic Education Advocacy and helped her school's team to better understand how her brain works, providing real strategies based on current neuroscience. As she became more engaged, her mood and grades improved.
